What’s My Story?

First Came Vancouver

Throughout his varied and geographically diverse career, Denis has built up more than 10 years of event planning experience. Born and raised in Vancouver, Denis immediately developed a love for design, in all its forms from graphic design, to furniture design, from fashion to interior design.

After studies at the renowned British Columbia Institute of Technology’s School of Interior Design, Denis took his love of design and gained experience in the world of high end furniture design as well as in architectural and interior design studios. By combining his knowledge of the basic elements of design, colour theory and space planning, Denis excelled, quickly learning that the skills he’d amassed perfectly fit the event planning industry. When he was offered the opportunity to move to a larger Toronto Studio, he pounced on it!

In Toronto, Denis gained more experience in planning events for the architecture and interior design world, as well as further building his style sense during studies in Fashion Styling at Ryerson University’s School of Fashion. This led to a stint in the corporate offices of Holt Renfrew, Canada’s leading high-end fashion retailer where he conceptualized and coordinated events from office holiday parties to large corporate retreats.

Throughout his more than 10 year career, Denis has built a unique skill set perfectly suited to the corporate and social events planning industry. And after completing the Event and Meeting Management Program at George Brown’s School of Hospitality, Denis knew he was ready to venture out on his own, creating his own company: CHARCOAL EVENTS.

By combining his many skills in design, styling, and his vast experience in the event planning world with a well-honed meticulous attention to detail, Denis and CHARCOAL EVENTS are ready to ignite your vision into the perfect event!

When I’m not crunching numbers for your budget, or working through your event timelines or designing some clever decor solution you will most likely find me wandering the city.  I love finding hidden gems of places in the city to drink, eat and shop.  I’ll probably be sipping a glass (or two) of wine on these wanders.  I try to do yoga at least once a week for some fitness and to help relax and keep me calm.  I like to bake, read and learn new things.

I also jet to New York City, my favourite city, more often than I’ll ever admit. I find so much inspiration in the hustle and bustle of the streets of NYC.
